Why do people order the chicken fried steak at 50’s Diner?
Of the people who mention it in a review, about a third call it the best chicken fried steak they have had or tell you to order it. One of them put it this way: “Great chicken fried steak breakfast. Seasoning of batter and gravy done right with that taste of home you want.”
What is in a chicken fried steak here, and what comes with it?
The menu lists it twice, both times as Chicken Fried Steak. The batter goes on by hand, the steak fries golden in light vegetable oil, and country gravy goes over the top. The breakfast version, under The Classics, comes with two eggs, hash browns or home fries, and one more thing you choose: a pancake, wheat or white toast, or biscuit and gravy. The entrée is the steak under its gravy on its own plate, and mashed potatoes, okra, onion rings, pinto beans, coleslaw and sweet corn are among the sides you can add.
